(KZN.RU,
May 9). About 120 thousand Kazan citizens gathered today in the city center for
the action “Immortal Regiment”, dedicated to the 72nd anniversary of the
Victory in the Great Patriotic War. Rustam Minnikhanov, the President of the RT,
Alexei Pesoshin, the Prime Minister of the RT, Farid Mukhametshin, the chairman
of the State Council of the R, Ilsur Metshin, the Mayor of Kazan, as well as
representatives of the ministries and departments of the republic, the City
Executive Committee took part in a large-scale procession.
The
procession of the column started at the intersection of streets Karl Marx and
Tolstoy and passed along the route of streets K. Marx, Lobachevsky,
Kremlevskaya to the Millennium Square. The largest Victory Banner with an area
of more than 200 square meters led the procession, which was carried by 600
people: participants in the international youth educational project “The Union is
the heirs of the Victory”. The total length of the route in the capital of
Tatarstan was more than 2 km.
Ilsur
Metshin, the Mayor of Kazan, went to the march with a portrait of his
grandfather on the paternal line – Muzagit Metshin. He went through the whole
war from the first days to the Victory in 1945. He received five wounds, two
concussions. “We honor the memory of our grandfathers, we are very proud of
their deed and we pass this memory from generation to generation. Even now,
telling these stories, we are overflowing with a sense of pride and huge
gratitude for the fact that our right to life, our native land, was upheld at
an incredibly high price. A huge tragedy affected the entire country and today
the main thing is to prevent the war from now on so that we or our children,
grandchildren and great-grandchildren will not see it”, noted I. Metshin.
The “Immortal
Regiment” completed its march in the Millennium Square, where the grandiose
interactive festive program was waiting for all participants: performance of
the thousandth choir of the project “Singing Kazan” with elements of a public
karaoke.
