I.Metshin on the utility revolution in Kazan

The first thermomechanical sludge treatment line in Russia has become a utility and ecological revolution for Kazan. Previously, 250 tons of sludge daily, which is 20 KAMAZ trucks, were stored in sludge pits, the area of which has reached 110 hectares in 50 years. It was a big environmental problem. Now the problem that we have been observing for many years and that is being faced all over Russia is going away, we have taken an important step.

Thanks to the introduction of this line, Kazan is one of the first cities in the country that refuses to use sludge pits and makes the municipal wastewater treatment system waste–free and safe. Now we receive 70 tons of biofuel every day, which are actively used by the cement plants.

Today we are moving from the issues of leaking roofs, broken elevators and decayed yards, to environmental problems that concern future generations. This is a completely different stage of the urban development. We are not patching holes, but we are implementing projects that will determine the future of Kazan and the entire Tatarstan for upcoming decades.
