The Mayor of the capital of Tatarstan Ilsur Metshin met with the students
of Kazan State Medical University. The head of the city congratulated them on
the Day of Students, shared about work done in Kazan for young people, and also
answered students' questions.
Before the meeting, I. Metshin looked around the Rector’s office and the
maternity center, a simulation ward and students’ rooms, and also attended
class on examining patients.
Currently, in Kazan with a population of 1.3 million people, there are
158,000 students, third of them came from other regions of Russia and more than
70 countries. “We want young people to choose the capital of Tatarstan for
living, work and raising a family. And we are actively continuing this work,”-
the Mayor said.
I. Metshin also answered the students' questions. A student from Iran
proposed to equip a cricket ground in the city, which is popular among foreign
students. The Mayor promised to consider this proposal, according to him, it is
necessary to understand what equipment is necessary. “Maybe it should be
equipped not for holding competitions, but to have an opportunity to practice
this sport,”- he said. The students also asked the head of the city to share time
management tips: how to do everything in time, when you need to study but want
to be engaged in social activities as well. The main thing is to be positive,
to see the pros in the little things – it empowers and allows to work more, the
Mayor shared.
Today, more than 5,700 students study at the university, which was
founded in 1814. 758 professors and teachers work at 9 faculties. The
university has 63 scientific circles, 5 dance groups have been formed, a vocal
studio, a volunteer center and a medical volunteers’ office. According to the
chairman of the students’ union Nafis Gilfanov, the traditional event that all
students and teachers are waiting for is an international scientific
conference. Last year, over 1300 students from Russia and CIS countries took
part in it.
