The Mayor of the city Ilsur Metshin met with the Kazan winners of the
International Olympiad in Informatics IOI-2023 at the Executive Committee of
Kazan. The competition was held in Hungary from August 28 to September 4. 360
schoolchildren from 90 countries participated in the Olympiad. Two
schoolchildren from Moscow and two Kazan students – Valery Rodionov and Gimran
Abdullin took part as part of the Russian national team.
At the meeting, the guys shared about their impressions of the Olympiad
- in their opinion, the tasks were more difficult. The guys also shared their
plans for the future.
Valery Rodionov has been a first-year student of the Faculty of Computer
Science at HSE. This university has a high rating and popularity among his riends.
“Now the best IT universities in Russia are HSE, MIPT and SPSU. I wanted
to study in Moscow, I have a lot more friends there. My main mentor is a
computer science teacher of the Lobachevsky school at KFU Sergey Ivanovich
Mikhailin, who taught me everything,”- the gold medal winner said.
The guys had to go through difficult examinations to take part in the
Olympiad in Hungary. First there was the All-Russian School Olympiad, and then
the summer training camps were held at the Sirius educational center. Only four
of the best students were selected from 20 people.
“The most important thing while solving tasks is to learn to concentrate
your attention. I think I'm coping with it badly so far. I just have a
boundless love for computer science since the sixth grade, thanks to the
computer science teacher Ilshat Irikovich Safiulin and high school students,”-
he said.
Ilsur Metshin congratulated the guys on their victory: “You are a golden
page in the education of our Kazan. The fact that you became the winners of the
international Olympiad is the glory of the education of the city of Kazan and
your parents. We are proud of you”.
At the end of the meeting, the Mayor of Kazan handed letters of thanks
to Valery Rodionov and Gimran Abdullin.
