The Chekhov market will be renovated – the main building will be
restored, and shopping stores and a multipurpose square with galleries will open
nearby. The architects took into account the history of the place and added
modern features to the project.
The renovation project was presented to the Mayor by architect Oleg
Maklakov. He said that the Chekhov market space will be divided into several
parts: the main building, shopping stores and a multipurpose courtyard with
galleries. The main pavilion is planned to be restored. New spaces will be designed
behind it- two-storey shopping stores that will resemble pavilions that existed
in the USSR.
The main feature of the Chekhov market will be a multipurpose square
with galleries. It can be used not only for trading, but also for holding events.
It is possible to install a tent in the courtyard. Lectures,
presentations or other activities are planned to be held here.
The Chekhov Market is an integral part of the green connection between
two public spaces (Aksenov's garden and the square of Medical workers). The
market is considered the core of this esplanade. Therefore, it is important design
walking routes, which are now being interrupted. Then a single space will be
formed.
In many ways, the creators of the concept relied on history: back in
1966, shopping stores were located here. Later they were demolished, and in
1980 a standard pavilion was built. The territory has become an open platform
for trade.
Ilsur Metshin noted that such a position would help make space a point
of attraction.
“The Chekhov market is not only the history of our food market, but also
a favorite space in the city center. We are not just recreating a place for the
sale of agricultural goods, but making a new point of attraction for both
business and agricultural manufacturers, most importantly for residents,”- the
head of the city said.
