Road workers
will complete the first in 20 years’ renovation of the Millennium Bridge in
July. This became known during a meeting held at the facility today by the
Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin. The renovation is 60% completed. In total, 40
sections of roads will be repaired in Kazan this year, which will allow the
city to meet the federal standard – 85% of roads will meet a standard
condition.
“The
Millennium Bridge is one of the major transport arteries of the city. Since the
construction of the bridge, this is its first renovation which we are carrying
out as part of the preparation of Kazan for the BRICS summit. Under favorable
weather conditions, road workers promise to complete ahead of schedule,”- Ilsur
Metshin said.
As of
today, the renovation is 60% completed. Road workers are ahead of schedule – 42
workers and 10 special vehicles are involved daily at the facility. As of
today, the asphalt concrete pavement has been removed on the bridge. For the
first time after construction, a complete cleaning of the external
waterproofing to the metal structure was carried out, and the laying of a new
protective layer began. It has a three-layer coating and prevents the metal
from corrosion. The first 600 meters have already been laid. After that, two
layers of asphalt concrete will be laid – the start of work is scheduled for
today. The dismantling of old and installation of new bridge fences, repair and
coloring of the pylon are also underway.
Last year,
the first part of the Millennium Bridge and the access roads were repaired. In
April 2024, work began on the second part.
