An international competition for the development of an architectural
concept for a new building of the Tatar State Academic Theater named after G.
Kamal launches in Kazan. Today, the Mayor of the city Ilsur Metshin noted at a
press conference that the relocation of the theater will be a historical
occasion for the capital of the republic.
An important decision for the theater team and the cultural life of the
whole republic was made by Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov. The total
area of the new building will be more than 20,000 sq.m. It is planned to build
it near the intersection of Nursultan Nazarbayev and Khadi Taktasha streets,
next to the embankment of Kaban Lake.
Aide to Tatarstan President Natalia Fishman-Bekmambetova said that the
theater building will be located in the park, while parking and utilities will
be located underground.
The present building of the theater was built for its 90th anniversary.
