The
renovation is being completed at the Boxing and Table Tennis Center in Kazan.
In June, the BRICS Games competitions will take place in the venue, and after
that, up to two thousand children will be able to train in the renovated
building with an area of 17,000 square meters. For the upcoming competitions,
30 new tennis tables and six boxing rings have been purchased for the center,
and the main tournament hall will accommodate 1,800 spectators. Today, the
Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin inspected the progress of the renovation.
The main
hall of the table tennis and boxing competitions has a total area of 2,200
square meters with 1,800 seats. The floor covering, lighting and LED screen
were updated in the hall for the competition. The floor and sports equipment
were replaced in the boxing and table tennis halls, lighting and equipment were
updated, and the premises were renovated.
“The BRICS
Games are not only a large-scale sports event and an opportunity to promote
Kazan at the international level. For us, it is also a great opportunity to renovate
the sports venues where Kazan residents are engaged. One of them is the Boxing
and Table Tennis Center, which became one of the first venues built for the
Universiade. Over the years, many technologies and materials have changed and
the center needs to be renovated. The competitions of the BRICS Games will be
held in this center for two weeks. After that, two thousand young athletes will
be able to improve their skills in it for many more years in comfortable
conditions,”- Ilsur Metshin noted.
The head of
the city got acquainted with the design project of the main entrance,
recreation rooms for athletes and a conference hall, which will be located on
the second floor. Specialists of Altyn Group LLC designed the interior of the
Boxing and Table Tennis Center together with the Kazan Development Institute.
“The main
problem of the previous building was the dark space at the entrance to the
hall, the lighting was not sufficient. We chose bright color solutions, as the
capacity of the center is large – about 1400 children study every day at a
time,” - said Linar Garipov, Chairman of the Committee of Physical Culture and
Sports.
128
athletes are expected to participate in the table tennis competitions at the
BRICS Games, which will be held on 19-22 June. Four sets of medals will be
awarded in team and individual competitions. 156 athletes will arrive at the
boxing tournament, men and women will compete in several weight categories. The
competition will be held on 13- 16 June, and 25 sets of medals will be awarded.
After the
BRICS Games, about 400 young tennis players, 400 boxers, 600 gymnasts and
football players will be engaged in the sports center on a permanent basis.
The
renovation of the center is scheduled to be completed by May 25. New
engineering systems have been fully installed in the building. Installation of
low-current networks, ventilation, power supply, air conditioning and heating,
water supply and sanitation has been completed by more than 90%, and the
interior decoration and landscaping is almost completed.
