The Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin instructed the transport committee to develop rules for deliverymen moving on electric bikes, electric scooters and other individual vehicles. Such measures are necessary to ensure the safety of pedestrians and deliverymen, the Mayor said.
“Deliverymen on the electric bike have become a sign of our time. There are about 4,000 of them in Kazan today. Deliverymen are actively moving around the city, though are cases of hitting pedestrians and other traffic accidents. Given the dynamics of the development of delivery services and the demand for this service among Kazan residents, the time has come to adjust the rules for the movement of couriers, especially in places with high pedestrian traffic. This is important for ensuring the safety of pedestrians and deliverymen,”- Ilsur Metshin noted.
It is necessary to create “slow” areas within which the speed of electric bikes and electric scooters would decrease automatically. Some areas should remain completely inaccessible for them– there deliverymen will be required to get off the bike. Speed reduction or complete restriction should be developed for places with high pedestrian traffic, such as parks, squares, embankments, as well as for narrow sidewalks. For example, this will affect the pedestrian streets Baumana, Kayum Nasyri, Peterburgskaya and some others. Such restrictions are possible when installing special devices on the vehicle, which, in particular, were installed on electric scooters.
