The construction of a Figure Skating Center is underway on Portovaya Street in Kazan. The new venue with an area of 6,000 square meters is designed for training young athletes. The Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin inspected the progress of work.
“Kazan confirms its status as one of the leaders of the sports life of Russia. Since the bidding to host the Universiade 2013, the number of our sports venues has doubled: from 323 to 644, – said Ilsur Metshin. – The construction of the Figure Skating Center is the next step in our systematic work to support youth sports. This venue is unique because figure skating requires special conditions: the ice must be softer, and the temperature must be comfortable. I want to thank the Rais of Tatarstan for his support. We have inspected the progress of the work: the project fully responds the technical requirements of our skaters, and provides everything necessary.”
The Figure Skating Center will be divided into sports and training areas. The ground floor will be equipped with an ice rink with stands for 250 seats, six locker rooms with direct access to the ice for 15-20 people, a medical room, administrative offices and a cafeteria. On the second floor, there are two large changing rooms for 60 people, three gyms, two choreography classes, a warm-up room and other rooms. The third floor will be used for administrative offices.
The heart of the center is the ice arena, its area is 30 by 60 meters. It meets all professional standards: a cooling and air conditioning system is installed under the ice, and the dashers are made in accordance with safety requirements.
To date, the construction workers have completed the installation of a foundation, laying the roof and cladding the building with front panels. Installation of internal utilities (ventilation, heating, water supply, and electricity), facade cladding and installation of stained glass windows is currently underway. The interior is at the stage of finishing. About 90 workers are involved on the site every day.
