Today, as many as 40 Siberian pines have been planted in the square near the Kazan-2 Railway Station as part of an environmental campaign to landscape public spaces. Kazan Mayor Ilsur Metshin attended the event. During the city cleanup day, 110 Siberian pines have been already planted in various parks in the city, and 40 more trees will be planted in the Molodezhny square shortly.
“We systematically pay attention to the landscaping of Kazan. Over the past 15 years, together with Kazan residents who want to live in a green, well-maintained, and comfortable city, we have planted more than 670,000 trees and 370,000 shrubs. Today, Kazan is the leader in terms of green areas among the million-plus cities in our country. According to research by Kazan Federal University, 61% of the city is covered by green spaces. We will continue this work. I would like to express my gratitude to all the participants of the city cleanup. You help to make the city more beautiful, and we will celebrate the May holidays together in a clean city,”-said Ilsur Metshin.
As many as 65 representatives of youth organizations joined the event, including activists from the Young Guard of United Russia, student labor teams, the Youth Parliament of the Kazan City Duma, and the Youth Front of Tatarstan. The planted seedlings are 15-year-old trees from the Imperial Nursery of the Kamsko-Ustinsky District. With proper care, they will become a beautiful feature of the city for centuries, as Siberian pines can live up to 350 years in urban environments.
Kazan young people are always involved in the city's life. During the two-month period of sanitary cleaning and improvement, activists from youth organizations and student teams have restored numerous city infrastructure facilities and participated in clean-ups.
The current event is a part of the project to create pine alleys in the parks of the Tatarstan capital. During the citywide cleanup, 110 trees were planted in Uritsky Park and in the grove on Gavrilova Street. In the near future, pine alleys will be arranged in Molodezhny Park.
