The Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin held a working meeting with Tran Duc Thang, a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Secretary of the Hanoi City Party Committee, at Kazan City Hall today. The meeting took place as part of the Russia–ASEAN summit. The parties discussed the prospects for expanding cooperation between Kazan and Hanoi, including the cooperation in the tourism, socio-cultural and economic areas.
Ilsur Metshin and Tran Duc Thang expressed interest in further exchange of experience and development of partnership relations between Kazan and Hanoi.
Hanoi - the capital of Vietnam, has a population of 8.7 million people, shares with Kazan an interest in high technologies and major infrastructure projects, including in road transport infrastructure. Ilsur Metshin stressed that the capital of Tatarstan is open to international cooperation and is ready to share successful municipal practices.
Aidar Abdulkhakov, Director of the Municipal Unitary Enterprise Metroelectrotrans, presented the work of the Kazan metro to the Vietnamese delegation. For reference, presently one line has a length of about 17 kilometers and 11 stations. For more than 20 years of operation, the Kazan metro has transported about half a billion passengers, and in 2025, over 40 million people used its services. The construction of the second line is currently underway.
Special attention was paid to technological solutions. Kazan Metro became the first digital metro in Russia, as well as one of the first to introduce cashless payment and modern automated train control systems.
Hanoi representatives noted the high level of Kazan specialists and expressed interest in sharing their experience in the metro construction.
