(Kazan City
KZN.RU, June 20, Kseniya Shvetsova). 10 works from 14 applications of the
participants in the creative competition on the concept of " Tergezu "
("Revival") memorial sign, which is planned to be installed on the
waterfront of Lake Kaban, were selected. However, there will not be any hurry in
the installation of the plaque - today at the Business Monday the Mayor of
Kazan Ilsur Metshin urged the organizers of the competition to discuss this
issue with citizens once again and take into account the opinions of those who
spoke out against the appearance of the monument on the territory of the
waterfront of Lake Kaban.
Recall
creative competition on the concept of "Tergezu" plaque was announced
on 7 April. It was launched in order to perpetuate the memory of historical
event of 1767 - release of the decree of Empress Catherine II, allowing Tatar
merchants to build stone mosques, which had a huge impact on the revival and
development of Islam in Russia. The competition concept of memorial sign
"Tergezu" should reflect the image of Catherine II in the form of an
independent sculpture or abstract shape symbolizing a memorable event in 1767.
It was
planned to arrange a memorial sign on the eastern shore of Lake Kaban, near the
park Millennium. As the chief architect of Kazan Tatiana Prokofieva told, historical
information, prepared by the Mardzhani Institute of History of Islam, terms of
reference, surveying and photographic images of the territory, proposed for the
placement of the plaque were provided to participants as the initial
documentation.
"From
22 to 24 June meeting of the expert group, in which participants will be able
to explain their work, is scheduled. Further the results of the competition and
a winner will be announced from 27 June to 1 July” - T.Prokofeva told.
The Mayor expressed
his gratitude for the activity of all participants and said that, as promised,
all the works will be considered and the winners will be announced. But at the
same time we will have to wait a little bit with the installation of the
monument. "Life makes us to act in another way. As you know, the idea of
a memorial sign has caused a great resonance in society. We have heard
various opinions, including those who are strongly opposed to set the sign on
Lake Kaban. We saw that the topic of historical and cultural monuments is acute
for our people, perhaps because Kazan is not spoiled by their large number. In
any case, we have heard the opinion of Spiritual Administration of Muslims,
other non-governmental organizations and just indifferent people. Therefore I
propose to summarize the competition now, but do not set the memorial sign, but
consult with the citizens once again", - I. Metshin said.
The Mayor also
instructed the organizers of such competitions give the terms of reference to
the look of citizens in more detail,
noting that the first dissatisfaction were associated with the error: people thought
that it was planned to establish a monument in Old Tatar settlement, although
initially it was a territory in the area of Millennium Park.
It is
planned to get back to the issue of a memorial sign "Tergezu" after a
public hearing, in which citizens can express their views.
