A new electrical substation is under construction on Magistralnaya
Street in Kazan to supply electricity to the Novaya Portovaya district. With a
capacity of 80 MVA, the facility will support the area’s further development,
as the current electrical capacity is not sufficient for the planned expansion.
Kazan Mayor Ilsur Metshin inspected the construction progress of the new
substation.
“On the banks of the Volga
River, the Novaya Portovaya residential project is being developed. As with any
large‑scale initiative, it starts with building the necessary infrastructure.
The area previously faced serious power supply challenges, and the solution was
to construct a new substation. This will lay the energy foundation for the
future residential district. The substation is fully equipped with domestic
equipment, which is a significant advantage. In the near future, this will
enable us to begin commissioning new facilities in the Novaya Portovaya area,”
said Ilsur Metshin, Mayor of Kazan.
The land plots will be
cleared of abandoned buildings to enable the construction of residential
buildings, social facilities, and the improvement of public spaces.
The project’s first stage
is currently being implemented. It includes the construction of
404,000 square meters of residential space for 10,000 people, as well
as eight kindergartens and one school. To date, construction works are ongoing
on 20 residential buildings within five housing complexes.
The current power capacity was
insufficient for the planned development. The power deficit exceeded
32 MW, while the existing grid infrastructure did not comply with the
reliability requirements applicable to new residential and social facilities.
The Marina substation (rated capacity: 80 MVA) completely
eliminates the existing power supply limitations. The facility comprises a
three‑storey structure with a total area of 1,122 sq. m, implemented
under an individual design project. The exterior will be finished with metal
panels. The electrical equipment will be installed within a closed‑loop
configuration, which ensures compliance with acoustic and environmental safety
standards for the local population. Operation will be carried out in an
automated mode with two duty specialists on site.
“The new substation will offset the power deficit and replace the
existing networks, which will be dismantled to make way for the new
development. We are also upgrading the cable lines: instead of the old wires,
we’ll be using cables with a cross‑section of 240 to 630 sq. mm. This
solution will allow transmitting large volumes of energy without the risk of
overheating,” explained Yuri Rylov, Director of Energо‑Pro.
