Kazan will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan
(KZN.RU, February 11, Alina Berezhnaya). On February 15, a meeting will be held at the Eternal Flame of Kazan Pobedy Park, dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the withdrawal of Soviet troops from the Republic of Afghanistan. During the week, events commemorating the Russians performing their duties will be held in educational institutions, teen clubs and cultural centers of the city. Airat Faizov, the chairman of the Committee for Children and Youth Affairs, said this at the Business Monday at the Kazan Executive Committee today.
A. Faizov reminded that February 15 is the 30th anniversary of the withdrawal of a limited contingent of Soviet troops from the Republic of Afghanistan across the country. “On this day, the last column of Soviet troops crossed the Afghan-Soviet border. Over 2 thousand soldiers and officers from Kazan took part in the hostilities, 275 Kazan citizens were awarded medals for bravery and military merit, and 92 received the Order of the Red Star. 34 of our countrymen were killed in Afghanistan, 108 were injured,” said Airat Faizov.
A number of events are planned in honor of the memorable date in Kazan. Thus, meetings with participants of hostilities will take place in educational and cultural institutions of the city. Sports competitions will be held in the teenage boxing center, a meeting with a war veteran will be held at the KSMU. An Afghan song festival will be held at the Information Technology and Communications Technical School.
The city will also have a cultural program. On February 16, a celebratory concert will be held at the CC “Moskovsky”. The ceremonial awarding of the city and republican awards for contribution to the patriotic education of young people will take place. The hall of the cultural center will present an exhibition of items from the time of the Afghan conflict.
The series of events will end with a big concert on February 19 at the entertainment complex “Pyramida” with the participation of veterans from all over the country.
A. Faizov also said that a monument will be erected in honor of the Afghan soldiers in the Pobedy Park soon. “The decision to move the monument from Dekabristov Street was made after repeated appeals of the Afghan war participants regarding uncomfortable access roads and parking at the monument”, he explained.
Ilsur Metshin, the Mayor of Kazan, ordered to organize all events decently. He expressed hope that next year a rally dedicated to the memory of Russians who performed duty outside the Fatherland would be held in Pobedy Park at the renewed monument to international soldiers.
