By the end of 2023, the mortality rate in Kazan reached the lowest
values for the entire observation period – 9.3 per 1000 inhabitants, which
allowed the city to become the leader in the Volga Federal District in this
indicator. Besides, the city has a positive natural increase in population
compared to St. Petersburg and Moscow. Such data were announced today at the meeting
of the Tatarstan Ministry of Health with participation of Mayor Ilsur Metshin
and Minister of Health Marsel Minnullin.
The main indicator of the effective work of the city's healthcare system
is still the life expectancy of citizens, Ilsur Metshin noted.
“Last year in Kazan, the average life expectancy was more than 75 years,
which is slightly higher than the goal we set. According to this indicator, we
occupy the first place in the Volga Federal District and the eleventh place in
the country. I think this is a worthy result,”- the Mayor said.
A positive trend is also observed in infant mortality rates, the level
of which decreased from 3.6 to 2.1 per 1,000 children born alive. According to
Vladimir Zhavoronkov, Deputy Minister of Health of the Republic of Tatarstan,
last year, together with the community of evidence–based medicine doctors,
checklists on sudden infant death syndrome were developed. They are distributed
in maternity hospitals and polyclinics – since September, no deaths have been
recorded in Kazan in connection with this diagnosis.
“We managed to inform parents at all stages of contact with the medical
service of the city – prenatal care, communication with obstetricians at the
maternity hospital, the first home care, a planned examination of the newborn,”-
Vladimir Zhavoronkov said.
The work of the new perinatal center at the City Hospital -7, as well as
the republican center for crisis pregnancy, will further reduce the infant
mortality rate in the future.
“We will upgrade the crisis pregnancy center so that patients feel
comfortable both psychologically and physically. This project has big goals.
There are specialists for termination of pregnancy for health reasons. But when
a woman wants to terminate a pregnancy because she is afraid to tell her
parents, we must be there to help at the right moment. Being a Mayor, I will do
everything to prevent abortions due to lack of money or lack of housing. We
will fight for every kid,”- the Mayor said.
According to the results of 2023, 92 medical organizations worked in
Kazan on the basis of the program of state guarantees of free medical care.
Among them are 28 state autonomous institutions, three federal and 61 private
medical institutions.
The indicators of medical examination of the residents increased – 228,030
people passed it, which amounted to 106.9% of the plan. In–depth medical
examination covered 195,355 people - 114.7% of the plan.
