Ilsur Metshin on the work of snow melting plants: «They worked 4 times more its design capacity»

Last night, 908 snow-cleaning vehicles and 632 road workers were involved in clearing snow from the streets, which is more than the daily average. The increase is due to the snowfall that fell the day before. This numbers were announced to Ilsur Metshin, the Mayor of Kazan, at an off-site meeting at the snow melting plant on Prospect Pobedy Street.

Over the past day, 18,400 tons of snow have been removed from the city's road network. As many as 1,073 tons of deicing materials were used. In the afternoon, 472 snow-cleaning vehicles and 594 road workers were involved in cleaning of the city. It allowed quickly coping with the consequences of bad weather on the main roads.

Today, the Mayor of the city inspected the operation of snow melting plants, which these days receive snow in increased volumes. There are eight such plants in Kazan - on Nesmelova, Vorovskogo, Vasilchenko, Tulskaya, A.Kutuya, Prospect Pobedy and two on Portovaya streets. The total design capacity of all stations is 8,036 tons of melted snow per day.

This January, more than 63% of the monthly rainfall average fell in Kazan. As a result, the workload of the snow melting plants exceeded their design capacity by four times.

At the same time, the snow melting stations accept only 74% of the removed snow, amounted to 250,000 tons. The rest of the snow was stored at temporary locations. In total, since the beginning of winter in Kazan, municipal services have collected 340,000 tons of snow. Therefore, the issue of construction of the additional snow melting stations is being considered today.
