Kazan and Bishkek have strengthened their cooperation. The Mayors of the cities, Ilsur Metshin and Aybek Dzhunushaliev, signed an agreement on establishing twin city relations and cooperation between Kazan and Bishkek at the All-Russian Municipal Forum «Small Motherland is the strength of Russia». The cities agreed to cooperate in urban development, environmental protection, and the development of trade, economic, and cultural ties. The event took place at the National Center «Russia» in Moscow.
The agreement provides for the development of twin city relations and mutual understanding between the residents. The document includes provisions for the expansion of cooperation in a wide range of areas. The cities plan to exchange experience in urban development, transport and housing infrastructure, ecology, economics, as well as education, culture, healthcare, sports, and tourism. The parties will pay special attention to the development of trade, economic, and cultural ties based on the principles of equality and mutual benefit.
Kazan and Bishkek have been cooperating for 28 years – the agreement on economic and socio-cultural partnership between the cities was signed in 1998. During these years, many joint projects have been implemented, and representatives of Bishkek regularly participate in international events in Kazan. These include the Smart City roundtable of mayors at the Kazan Digital Week international forum, the BRICS-2020 forum of twin cities and municipalities, the Valdai International Discussion Club's Central Asian conference, the 15th International Theatre Festival of Turkic Peoples «Navruz», the Kazanysh architectural forum, and others. Regular meetings are held between the heads of the municipality and the republic.
