I.Metshin: “The camp has everything for a good rest: the modern buildings, a sports venue, an entertainment area, and a wonderful canteen”

The Narmonka children's camp will open next summer and will be renamed ‘Zilant’ after the renovation. At the first stage, six buildings, a canteen and a medical unit will open. The new design of the camp is based on the symbol of the city and will include patriotic and local history directions. Presently, the renovation of four buildings, as well as the staff office, has been completed by 80%. The Tatarstan Minister on Youth Affairs Azat Kadyrov and Kazan Mayor Ilsur Metshin inspected the progress of construction work. 

The Narmonka children's health camp was built in 1981. Before the reconstruction, it accommodated up to 180 children and teenagers per shift – 540 children during the summer. After the renovation, the capacity will be increased to 280 children per shift, and the number of shifts will be up to five. This will allow the camp to accommodate up to 1,400 children during the summer. 

“We continue a systematic work to prepare for the next summer season for our children. The Narmonka camp was built 40 years ago. Almost all of its buildings have fallen into disrepair. Previously, about 500 children had the opportunity to spend summer here. The new insulated buildings allow increasing the number of shifts and tripling the capacity. Almost 1,500 children from Kazan will be able to rest in this picturesque place. The camp has everything for a good rest: the modern buildings, a sports venue, an entertainment area, and a wonderful canteen. By next year, Kazan children will have the opportunity to sty at another renovated camp, which will be renamed Zilant,”- said Ilsur Metshin. 

The renovation will affect the entire camp area. Ten dormitories for 28 children each, a 280-seat canteen, a clubhouse, a medical office, a checkpoint, as well as food and household warehouses. Utilities will be updated, and the territory will be improved. 

The sports infrastructure will include a new football pitch, two multi-purpose sportsgrounds for volleyball and basketball, a workout zone and a military sports ground. In addition, an outdoor amphitheater and playgrounds will be set up. 

The camp will be partially opened next year: six residential buildings, a canteen, a medical office and a checkpoint. 

The design of the camp is based on the image of Zilant, the mythical symbol of Kazan. The main directions will be patriotic and local history. There are plans to hold Zarnitsa (outpost games) for children, classes on military-patriotic training and field medical service. The agricultural classes for students of 7-10 grades is currently being discussed with Kazan State Agrarian University. 

The design with Tatar traditional elements will be continued in the canteen: it is planned to place images of heroes of Tatar fairy tales and myths with character descriptions on the tables. 

A single design will be created for both the exterior and interior design of the buildings. The pastel shades of green, orange and beige is used in the design. 

Outdoor lanterns and evening facade lighting of buildings will be installed on the territory. Landscaping and small architectural forms will be installed as well.
