(Kazan, KZN.RU, April 13). Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov inspected objects under construction and renovation in the historical part of Kazan today. He was accompanied by Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin.
The inspection of work done in 2012-2013 on the preservation of cultural heritage started at the intersection of Bauman and Astronomicheskaya streets. Mr. Minnikhanov visited houses Nos. 27 and 60 Bauman Street under reconstruction. The RT President said that the courtyards of the houses located on the main pedestrian street of Kazan should be put in order and that the owners should be charged with this work.
Another inspected object was the former Press House, located at 19 Bauman Street, a 1930s monument of constructivist architecture, designed by Pan. The building is closely connected with the history of printing and publishing in the republic. At various times, it housed “TatKnigoIzdat” (Tatar Publishing House), the city's largest bookstore and the editorial offices of Tatarstan's newspapers and magazines. The Press House building was transferred to an investor who was charged with the task of its restoration and maintenance. Rustam Minnikhanov was informed that the building would house a 167-room hotel, 90 of which would be standard class. In addition, there will be restaurants and stores on the ground floor. According to a representative of the developer, the construction work will be completed by the summer, and the building will be commissioned by the end of 2014.
The Tatarstan President was also showed a renovation project of the historic quarter bounded by Rakhmatullin, Kavi Nadzhmi, Profsoyuznaya and Musa Jalil streets. The project includes a cultural heritage object of federal importance – the 19th century Nobility Assembly hotel. The area will first be checked for the physical condition of the buildings. It is planned to build residential properties in this quarter.
