I.Metshin greets everybody on the anniversary of Kazan Universiade opening

Thanks to the Universiade, Kazan made a breakthrough in its development, gained world-wide recognition and became more attractive to tourists, stated Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin at today's Business Monday meeting, reminding that the World Summer Student Games started in Kazan a year ago.

"Yesterday was a significant date – it marked exactly a year since the opening of the 2013 Universiade. We all remember the fireworks and the flaming torch which burned the skepticism of those who did not believe that we had enough time to prepare, who doubted that we would succeed. By the end of the Games we were all seized with a feeling of pride in our city, republic and country. Together we were able to prepare a world-class event. The FISU leaders were highly impressed by the Universiade and noted that those were the best-ever Student Games," said Ilsur Metshin.

"I want to express my gratitude to all those who fought to win this overall victory: ordinary construction workers, excavator operators, architects, volunteers, police, transport, cultural and health workers,  employees of the Executive Committee, our colleagues from the federal and republican Government, and, of course, our President Rustam Minnikhanov, under whose leadership we prepared and conducted those spectacular Games," said the mayor.
