(Kazan, KZN.RU, July 27, by Zilya Gafiyatullina). A summer street festival entitled "Cultural Shift", which was off to a great start last week, is gaining momentum. Kazan residents took to the new show, and now the atmosphere is always lively on the Lake Kaban waterfront near the Old Tatar Settlement. Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin was among the guests of the festival. The city head walked around festival sites with settlement old-timers, Nurani Biktimirova and Iskander Kamal, and talked with members of the audience.
During his walk along the waterfront, the mayor admired animated characters from fairy tales and folk legends: Queen Syuyumbike, Shurale, a common Tatar shepherd and others well-known childhood characters. Made up in a uniform style and completely covered in bronze paint the "living figures" enlivened Marjani Street inviting tourists to be photographed with them. The mayor of Kazan was impressed by the colorful performance, and, like many other strollers, threw a coin into the hat and had his picture taken with one of the figures. The mayor also visited stalls selling handicrafts.
"Young artists of our city came up with the initiative to hold the festival and asked us to provide a venue for the weekend, saying that they would do what Kazan had never seen before. The first pancake was certainly not lumpy. Two years ago we couldn't even dream about it," said the mayor of Kazan.
The project became another initiative implemented by the city's creative intelligentsia with the support of the mayor of Kazan in the Year of Culture along with such notable events as the "Book Fest" and "Literary Courtyards."
