(Kazan, KZN.RU, July 17, by Adel Galiyev) Lining the stele and colonnades with new facing started today in the memorial zone of Kazan's Victory Park. While inspecting the work progress in the park, Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin was assured that major reconstruction of the memorial zone will be completed before the cold season.
The mayor first thanked the park Board of Trustees and especially its chairman, General Director of OAO "Setevaya Kompaniya" Ilshat Fardiev, for participating in this ambitious project. "It's commonplace worldwide that park upkeep depends not only on budgetary allocations, but also on activists and socially responsible companies," he said.
The mayor of Kazan again reminded those present about the significance of Victory Park. "We should remember that it is not just a park, a green space, but that it should live up to its name and convey the spirit of Victory, the spirit of the Great Patriotic War. We should create a memory book and make sure that no name has been forgotten. This requires meticulous work on the part of our archivists, induction centers and veterans councils," reminded the mayor.
Ilsur Metshin was satisfied with the work done, but urged the construction workers to maintain the pace of renovation. "The summer is short, and it is important to complete the reconstruction while the weather is favorable. The work should not be left until April or the beginning of May, when we will mark the 70th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War!" he stressed.
