The new
building of the G. Kamal Tatar State Academic Theater officially opened in Kazan.
The ceremony was attended by Rustam Minnikhanov, the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan, Olga
Lyubimova, Russian Minister of Culture, Irek Fayzullin, Russian Minister of
Construction, Housing and Utilities, Ilsur Metshin, the Mayor of Tatarstan, and
Vladimir Mashkov, the Chairman of the Union of Theater Workers.
The event began with a performance in a spacious foyer. Actors performed an
excerpt from the play «The Blue Shawl», based on the work of Karim Tinchurin. After
that, the participants of the ceremony signed a commemorative poster.
At the opening, Rustam Minnikhanov noted that today's event was a
significant achievement for the entire country. He expressed gratitude to the
organizers of the international contest who selected the project for the new
theater. The Rais of Tatarstan also thanked Ilsur Metshin and the team of the
Mayor's office for choosing the location for the theater. According to
Minnikhanov, it was one of the most beautiful sites in the city.
Vladimir Mashkov announced that the Golden Mask ceremony will be held in
Kazan this year.
Following the performance, guests were given a tour of the new building,
which has an area of approximately 57,000 square meters and includes four
multi-purpose halls with nearly 1,500 seats, as well as creative workshops. The
theater will be opened for audiences in March.
Today, a presentation of the coin dedicated to the 200 th
anniversary of Kaum Nasyri took place in the theater. The coin was issued by
the National Bank of Russia in honor of this significant occasion. The coin,
which is worth two rubles, was minted at the St. Petersburg Mint and features a
beautiful relief portrait of K. Nasyri on one side, surrounded by books and a
library on the other side.
After the presentation, guests had an opportunity to try Tatar national
cuisine at the Kosh Cafe.
Today, a meeting of the final board of the Ministry of Culture of the
Republic of Tatarstan took place at the theater.
For reference, the construction of the new Galiaskar Kamal Theater began in
2023. In 2021, a competition was held to develop an architectural concept for
the space, which was attended by 537 participants from 14 countries.
