I.Metshin: "Meeting with masters of architecture is a great gift for students"

One of the novel ideas of the international educational seminar on design  “Inserts Инсерты – Admiralty Settlement” held in Kazan was the construction of a convention center in the settlement. Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin proposed to discuss the idea with the public at today's Business Monday meeting.

Recall that the scientific director of the international educational seminar on design  “Inserts Инсерты – Admiralty Settlement” was an honorary member of the Royal Institute of British Architects and former chief architect of Barcelona, Professor Jose Asebilio. The event was held at Kazan State Architectural University with the support of City Hall and the Office of Architecture and Urban Planning of the Executive Committee of Kazan.

The lecturers at the seminar were eminent educators from various international schools of architecture: Professor Elia Zenghelis of Athens, Professor Elias Torres of Barcelona, architect Alexander Ivancic from Serbia, architect Sergi Godia from Barcelona and Milan architect Letizia Caruzzo.

The chief architect of Kazan, Tatiana Prokofieva, said that the seminar was attended by 22 KGASU senior and graduate students, four students from the Russian Academy of National Economy and two students from St. Petersburg National Research University of Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics.

"The goal of the seminar was set by Professor Jose Asebilio: a study of modern methods of urban development on the example of the Admiralty Settlement. This clearly reflects the interest of the city and the republic in the Admiralty Settlement area, as well as a keen interest in the topic of urban development and educational training of young professionals," said the chief architect of Kazan.

"The seminar has made a profound analysis of the area and suggested various options for the reconstruction of the Admiralty Settlement. What was particularly interesting and new for us was the idea of constructing a world-class convention center there," said Tatiana Prokofieva.

Ilsur Metshin confirmed that the city was closely cooperating with the Jose Asebilio and Stanislava Boskovic team, who invited numerous interesting and creative people who generously shared their knowledge and experience. "Meeting practicing masters of Europe's architecture schools is a great gift for our undergraduate and graduate students. This practice should be continued. It is particularly important that the workshop was aimed at specific goals that concern the city," said the mayor.

The mayor of Kazan also spoke about the planned convention center. He said that it was necessary to begin discussing the project with the public and hold an open international competition on the project. In addition, Ilsur Metshin mentioned that the experts invited to the seminar were full of admiration for Kazan architecture, in particular, two masterpieces of the Soviet period: the National Culture Center "Kazan" and Galiaskar Kamal Theater, which were designed as a result of an All-Union competition.
