One of the most important tasks in preparation for the World Summer Universiade - the development of urban transport infrastructure corresponding to international requirements, and increasing of the capacity of Kazan roads - said the Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin speaking with the report at the 48th session of Kazan City Duma.
As the Mayor of the city informed, initially Kazan roads were planned from the norm of 100 cars per 1000 people. Today the figure is 240 cars per 1000 people. This year the number of cars increased by 40 thousand, and by 2013 the city will have more than 400 thousand cars. "If not to take immediate drastic action, Kazan risks to stand in traffic jams long before the Universiade" - Ilsur Metshin is assured.
To solve this problem city authorities plan to carry out complex of activities, which includes reconstruction of existing and construction over 65 km of new roads as well as the construction of 15 multi-level flyovers, 16 pedestrian crossings, parkings.
According to Ilsur Metshin, currently two road junctions are under construction - Amirhan street - .Yamashev avenue and Decembers street - Lenskaya street. Construction of the Great Ring of Kazan from Said Galeev street to Decembers street (5,5 km). In 2010 except large city highways a serious repair of intra-roads is necessary to do, thanks to Government of RT it was allocated 500 million roubles for it.
In his speech at the session Prime Minister Rustam Minnikhanov underlined that Kazan should solve the problem of traffic jams. The head of the Government stated that in 2010 for the development of transport infrastructure in Kazan will be allocated 10 billion rubles. These funds will be directed to the most urgent projects. 2 large road facilities will be put in operation for the Day of the Republic of Tatarstan.
