(KZN.RU, July 28, by Irina Smirnova). "Kazan should become a magnet city for the Volga region and the whole of Russia" by creating favorable conditions for its citizens. Such was the essence of a three-minute address by the Mayor of Tatarstan’s capital Ilsur Metshin at a primary meeting in the cultural center “Kazan” to nominate the candidates to the Sixth State Duma of Russia
Kazan became the fifth area of Tatarstan’s 14, where primaries are scheduled with 117 candidates participating. Each participant spoke for three minutes about oneself, one’s work, and one’s plans for the future.
Ilsur Metshin, listing the achievements of Kazan in the last five years (winning the right to host the 2013 Universiade, the 2018 FIFAWorld Cup and, recently, the right to host the 2015 World Cup in water sports being among the most remarkable), noted that these events raised Kazan to a new level of recognition, respect and attractiveness. According to Ilsur Metshin, the city was able to achieve all of this thanks to the support of Tatarstan’s President Rustam Minnikhanov, of the republic's leadership working closely with the federal government, and with the support of President Dmitry Medvedev and Prime Minister - the leader of United Russia - Vladimir Putin. "Every resident of Kazan should feel the benefits of these achievements," said the head of the city.
Ilsur Metshin promised: "We will make the city of Kazan a magnet which will draw the best people from around the Volga region and Russia. We will make it safe, beautiful and comfortable." In conclusion, the Mayor of Kazan thanked everybody present for their creative work for the benefit of the capital.
