Ilsur Metshin: "We’re indebted to Feodor Chaliapin"
(KZN.RU, October 24, by Taisiya Basharkina). The Feodor Chaliapin museum is intended to open in the center Kazan. At today’s Business Monday, Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin instructed city planners to find the right spot for the future museum in the vicinity of Baumann and Peterburgskaya streets. The new cultural facilities in the city increase its appeal to tourists. Thus, the Museum of the Socialist Lifestyle has been successfully operating in the central part of Tatarstan’s capital, and next May, a renovated Konstantin Vasiliev picture gallery will open on Baumann Street.
Our next challenge is to create a museum worthy of the great singer. "We’re indebted to our outstanding fellow countryman Feodor Chaliapin. We must find the premises, and, without delay, prepare a museum blueprint," said I. Metshin. It may be recalled that Kazan has a collection of items connected with the life and work of the great opera singer, purchased from a St. Petersburg collector Kotlyarov.
