(KZN.RU, February 21, by Alisa Rozanova) Today, Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin acquainted himself with preparation for the construction of the 2013 Universiade Media Center on the right bank of the river Kazanka.
According to the mayor, the project of the 2013 Universiade Media Center is currently in the final stage of completion. "I share the residents’ concern about the Kazanka coastal area development. We’re planning to develop the area from the Kremlin to the Millennium Park on the left bank, and on the right - from the "Kyrlai" park, past the
Publishing House and "Riviera" to the 45 thousand-seat football stadium," said Ilsur Metshin.
According to the city authorities’ plans, the media center will be a unique bowl-shaped structure, intended to become not only a symbol of the Universiade, but also an architectural landmark. It is planned that following the World Student Games, the building will house the city registrar office. The new venue with its large ceremonial and wedding rooms, located next to a park and overlooking the Kremlin and the old Kazan, will be provided with state-of-the-art equipment. "I think it will be one of the most beautiful spots of Kazan, the calling card of the city, along with the Kremlin and other familiar sites ... The architecture that we are going to create will be the talk of the world," said the mayor.
The famous Buryat sculptor Dashi Namdakov is working on the project. It must be completed in March and submitted for evaluation by experts and the public.
