Kazan breaks records for birth-rate, housing construction and planting of greenery
(KZN.RU, December 26, by Renat Shirmanov) Three records are among Kazan's main achievements of 2012: For birth rate, housing construction and planting of greenery. This was announced by Mayor of the capital of Tatarstan Ilsur Metshin, who took part in a live TV broadcast of the "Topic" program.
The mayor said that for a long time the demographic record was held by1987 when 18,730 babies saw the light of day in Kazan. "This year we have set a new absolute record. According to the registrar, in the current year, 20.5 thousand newborn babies received birth certificates in Kazan," said Ilsur Metshin.
This year became a landmark in housing construction: For the first time in the history of the city, one million square meters of living space were built. In these terms, Kazan occupies a leading position among all the major cities.
"And the third record is green. This season, we have planted 48,000 trees and almost 20,000 shrubs. This is six times more than in previous years. Needless to say that we will continue with the “Green Record” project. Thus, the saying that everyone should have a son, build a house and plant a tree has been fulfilled in Kazan on all counts this year," said the mayor of the capital of Tatarstan.
