(KZN.RU, July 5, by Renat Shirmanov) Today, Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin congratulated the residents of the Novo-Savinovsky district on the opening of "Istanbul" garden at Chistopolskaya and Absalyamova streets. The appearance of this picturesque garden in the densely populated residential area is clear evidence of the warm friendship between the peoples of Tatarstan and Turkey, said the mayor at the opening ceremony. The Consul General of Turkey in Kazan Sabri Tunch Angyly was also present.
"Istanbul is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. At the time, Napoleon said that if the world were a single state, Istanbul would be its capital. I think that today he would say the same about Kazan. A lot has been done for the Universiade, and all of this is a legacy of the Games. The Universiade will come and go, but all the facilities will continue serving our residents," the mayor addressed Kazan residents.
In his turn, Sabri Tunch Angyly noted that Kazan is an important partner of Istanbul. "Fraternal relations between Kazan and Istanbul are a symbol of the fraternal relations between our two nations. Our languages, religion and culture are very close. I thank everyone who supports our historic ties. I hope this garden becomes a place where city residents will be happy to spend their free time," said the Consul General of Turkey in Kazan.
In keeping with the tradition, Ilsur Metshin and Sabri Tunch Angyly threw into the new fountain coins with the 2013 Universiade symbols.
