(KZN.RU, September 18, by Alisa Rozanova) Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin attended a meeting of the Old Kazan Fan Club held at City Hall. A number of issues were raised at the meeting, some of which found an immediate solution. Thus, the mayor supported the establishment of a grant for local historians and promised assistance in preparing the Charter of the Tatarstan Union of Local Historians, as well as in hosting a nationwide conference of local historians in Kazan.
"The work of the club is very important to Kazan, because, regardless of the purpose of a building, it is the spirit rather than the walls or furnishings that is all important, and it is people like you who support this approach, people who are truly in love with our city's history. If by our joint effort we can inspire love for our land among Kazan residents and awaken pride in our history, Kazan will become a very different city," said the mayor .
In turn, the Club chairman, historian and winner of the Makarievsky Award, Anatoly Yeldash, thanked the Mayor for his help in the publication of the monograph "Orthodox Culture in the Kazan Region (16th – 20th centuries): Essays on History," to which the author gave 15 years of his life and who handed Ilsur Metshin a copy of the book. He expressed special gratitude for the fact that in preparation for the Universiade many of the objects of cultural heritage have been renovated.
Member of the Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Philology, member of the Presidium of the Russian Union of Local Historians, Nail Valeyev, proposed the establishment of a new tourist route in Tatarstan, similar to Russia's famous "Golden Ring", which would tell about the history of the region and the biographies of more than100 notable people. In addition to Kazan, the route should include Chistopol , Elabuga, Alekseyevsk and Bilyarsk.
