(KZN.RU, October 9, by Albert Safiullin) Kazan became one of the two Russian cities, along with Kaliningrad, which will receive a grant through the United Nations' Reducing Transport Greenhouse Gas Emissions program. Twelve million rubles will be allocated for the development of a Comprehensive Traffic Management Program (CTMP). This was stated by Rustam Nigmatullin, First Deputy Head of the Kazan Executive Committee, at a meeting of the city headquarters to normalize the traffic situation.
In his opinion, the need to create a CTMP, which is part of the General Plan, is long overdue. Based on the collection of accurate data and mathematical modeling of the traffic flow, it will give a verified answer to numerous questions of urban planning.
"We have found a way to fund this project through the United Nations' Reducing Transport Greenhouse Gas Emissions program for Russia. By decision of the program Steering Committee, two Russian cities – Kazan and Kaliningrad – have been approved for grants of $12 million, which may be invested in the CTMP," said the Deputy Head of the Executive Committee.
Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin endorsed the idea of developing a CTMP and directed that funds from the city budget be allocated to co-finance the project.
