8 Kazan athletes included in expanded Russian Olympic team
(KZN.RU, January 20, by Renat Shirmanov). The Winter Olympics in Sochi will be a major sporting event of the year. There are eight Kazan athletes in the expanded Russian Olympic team. Kazan Mayor Ilsur Metshin wished good luck to the organizers and participants of the upcoming Games at today’s Business Monday meeting.
Chairman of the Committee of Physical Culture and Sports Ilgiz Fakhriev said that eleven candidates from the Republic of Tatarstan have been included in the expanded national team, eight of them being representatives of Kazan. They are: Alexei Tereshchenko , Evgeny Medvedev , Ilya Nikulin (hockey) , Niyaz Nabeyev and Denis Isaykin ( double event), Anastasia Dotsenko and Natalia Zhukova (skiing) and Artem Glebov ( freestyle ) . The final list will not be approved until January 25.
“We can only wish good luck to our athletes. The Olympics is the main event of the year. I wish to God that everything went well. This will be a success for the whole country. We are concerned about the Olympics as much as we were about the Universiade,” said Ilsur Metshin.
