(KZN.RU, February 13, by Renat Shirmanov). Kazan Mayor Ilsur Metshin presented awards to the winners of the third city games "Sporting Kazan 2013". The ceremony took place at the Center for Boxing and Table Tennis. "Thanks to these competitions, we're able to promote mass sports. Today, every third Kazan resident is regularly engaged in physical culture and sports," said the city head during the awarding ceremony.
The tradition of sports competitions among workers in different branches of municipal economy and teams of friends in Kazan was revived in 2011 at the initiative of the City Hall. The program included such popular sports as indoor soccer, volleyball, swimming, athletics, cross country skiing, etc. In 2012, after numerous requests of sports fans, cycling was also included in the program, and last year – table tennis and badminton. Thus, the participants of "Sporting Kazan 2013" competed in nine sports.
"We began our Spartakiade with just a few sports, and not so many teams participated. However, over the past year alone, the number of participants increased from 30 thousand to 35 thousand. There are no losers in our competitions. A healthy lifestyle, sports and Kazan are the winners n our Spartakiade," said Ilsur Metshin in his welcoming speech.
