(Kazan, KZN.RU, June 21, by Renat Shirmanov). Kazan's first student sculpture contest has been competed. A composition called "Kazan Backyard" won Grand Prix. The best project will be implemented, and by August 30, the sculpture will be unveiled in the Old Tatar Settlement. The genre sculpture contest among Kazan students has demonstrated its expediency and should become a tradition, opined Kazan Mayor Ilsur Metshin at a recent Business Monday meeting.
The first city-wide genre sculpture contest among students of Kazan art schools and design colleges started last April, and the Contest Board has determined the winners.
"The jury has selected five best works: the composition "Kazan Backyard", the "Minaret" lantern, and the sculptures: "Wali Abyi","The Theme" and "Kunche"(tanner). The Grand Prix winner, "Kazan Backyard", has been recommended for installation in the Old Tatar Settlement by the Day of the Republic and the City. The other prize-winning sculptures will be installed later," said the head of the Culture Administration Aigul Gornysheva.
In addition, she said, the Board members had recommended 12 more sculptures for subsequent installation. They could be installed near sports facilities, businesses, parks and gardens.
"We agreed that this year the best works submitted to the contest should decorate the streets of our city. The prize-winners should see that their work and their talent is in demand. The contest results will be translated into sculptures in urban space. On the whole, the “database” should be replenished and be accessible, because people from other cities may also become interested in the work of our students," pointed out Ilsur Metshin.
