(Kazan, KZN.RU, September 1, by Adelya Galieva) Kazan State Medical University, which celebrated its 200th anniversary this year, has been included in the Book of Honor of the city, Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin announced at the celebratory assembly.
Rector Alexei Sozinov greeted freshmen and future doctors' parents on the first Day of Student Knowledge. "Our 685 freshmen come from 27 regions of Russia. Every third one is a medalist or an honors diploma awardee. Their state exam average is 72 points; in the medical department the average is 93 points," said the rector speaking of the applicants' high academic level.
One hundred fifty freshmen come from 15 countries, out of the total of 53 countries where the students come from. The rector expressed his confidence that this great number of international students is due to Kazan's rich history and achievements in various fields. "We have a dream that Kazan will be perceived around the world as the capital of the most advanced, most affordable, and most accessible high-tech health care in the world. This goal is challenging, but possible!" Alexei Sozinov set the task for the coming years and stressed that in many ways its fulfilment will depend on today's freshmen.
Kazan Mayor Ilsur Metshin greeted the freshmen and admitted that he had once dreamed of becoming a Medical University student. "Being a Medical University student is a great honor, a great responsibility and a great achievement," he said. The mayor congratulated the university on the 200th anniversary and announced that Kazan City Duma has decided to induct KSMU into the Book of Honor of the city for outstanding achievements in the development of medical education and science and significant contribution to the training of highly qualified personnel for Kazan's healthcare institutions.
