(Kazan, KZN.RU, March 26, by Adelya Galieva) Kazan plays an increasingly important role in the international arena, rising to a new level and asserting itself on the world scene. Both sporting and cultural events that are held in the capital of Tatarstan at a very high level, contribute to its development and lead to significant positive changes. This was stated by President of the World Organization "United Cities and Local Governments," Istanbul Mayor Kadir Topbas, who is currently on a working visit to the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan, during a meeting on the development of the Eurasian section of UCLG.
Ilsur Metshin welcomed Kadir Topbas in the capital of Tatarstan, noting that this was the UCLG president's fourth visit to Kazan. "Each of our meetings has been a lesson in political wisdom, a lesson in leadership and efficiency," said the head of the city government.
The Kazan mayor stressed the importance of the UCLG, which allows municipalities to share their positive experience in solving urgent problems of urban policy. He also noted Istanbul's experience in building interfaith relations and in achieving a harmonious combination of innovation and preservation of traditions, which can be applied in Kazan. "Before taking a decision, I take into account how it was done in Istanbul – a city we look up to and whose experience we can use," summed up Ilsur Metshin, thanking Kadir Topbas for his support and interest in Kazan.
In turn, the mayor of Istanbul said that with every visit he notices the significant changes taking place in the capital of Tatarstan. "Kazan is playing an increasingly important role in the international arena, rising to a new level and asserting itself on the world scene," said Kadir Topbas, stressing that Kazan is quite capable of acquainting the world with its rich history and culture.
During the meeting, participants also heard a report on the activities of the UCLG Eurasian Office. Ilsur Metshin invited the UCLG leaders to participate in the Congress of Local Authorities of Eurasia, due in Kazan next July, during the FINA World Championships.
