(Kazan, KZN.RU, May 23, by Zilya Gayfi). This year, the renowned international intellectual cycling project "Cycling Night" returns to the capital of Tatarstan The night-time cultural and educational bicycle tour will take place on the night of May 30 – 31; anyone can join in.
Recall that the "Cycling Night" («Velonotte») is a unique cultural and educational brand, developed in Russia and recognized worldwide. The initiative of historian Sergei Nikitin and creative team "Moskultprog" was launched in Moscow nine years ago, and since then "Cycling Nights" are regularly held in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Istanbul, Rome, London and New York.
The capital of Tatarstan joined the project last year. The first "Starry Cycling Night Kazan" brought together 3,000 cyclists from Turkey, Italy, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Samara, Yaroslavl and other cities of Tatarstan, Russia and the world. This year, over 3.5 thousand people have applied to participate in the ride.
In the year of the FINA World Cup in Kazan, the bike route will be water-themed. The tour will pass by the main water bodies of the capital of Tatarstan, and there will be talks about the history and hydrology of Lake Kaban, the Bulak canal, the river Kazanka and the Volga.
The cyclists will stop at notable landmarks. Like last year, the main guide will be Moscow historian Sergei Nikitin.
"I am confident that this year there will be more than 3.5 thousand participants. Good buzz about the event spreads quickly; it means that we need to hold the event at the highest level. For us this is very important, we should give the participants a big welcome and listen to their suggestions about holding the next night-time bike ride in Kazan. We would like this event to become a tradition in our capital," said the mayor and instructed the police and traffic police to ensure the safety of the cyclists.
