For the first time Kazan City Duma of the second convocation will work in multi-party system; the city electoral commissions registered all 4 parties: the Edinaya Rossiya, the Communist Party, the Spravedlivaya Rossiya Party, the Liberal Democratic Party passed to the representative body under the results of elections held on October 10. Ilsur Metshin, the Mayor of Kazan said on today's Business Monday.
The preliminary results of elections were announced at the meeting. So the turnout was 49%. This figure is more than 10% higher than the turnout for municipal elections five years ago. Turnout in the voting for the candidates in Kazan City Duma of the first convocation in 2005 was just over 33 percent.
Under the preliminary data of the city electoral commission the “Edinaya Rossiya” is in the lead in the party list with 68%. The Communist Party has 12%, the Liberal Democratic Party has 11%, the Spravedlivaya Rossiya Party has 6,7%. In all single-mandate districts voters gave a majority of votes for candidates from the ruling party. "This is the best result among the multy-million cities. This is a great attention that the voters have payed to us", Ilsur Metshin said.
As noted at the meeting there have not been violations of law during the voting. "I want to thank both our candidates and our opponents for correctness shown during the pre-election campaign and on election day”, the Mayor of Kazan said, “elections have been held in accordance with law".
