Vladimir
Putin and Dmitry Medvedev laid flowers at the monument to the first Russian
president. Before the opening ceremony guests toured the exhibition center. The
building inside is made in the shape of circles – this is a kind of metaphor
for the pages of history. The first floor is called - "The Labyrinth of
History": Russia in search of freedom during the XX century. The second
represents the seven days of turning of the modern history, according to
gazeta.ru. All the exhibits of "Yeltsin Center" are the originals. For
example, audio of the speech of Yeltsin at the plenum of the Central Committee in
October 1987 is among them.
The main
task of the center is the preservation, study and understanding of the
historical heritage of Boris Yeltsin in the context of political and social
events of the 90s. The center was conceived as a socio-political organization
that promotes the construction of the rule of law, study and development of the
institute of presidency in Russia. Field of interest of the Center is support
for educational, research, charitable and cultural projects.
As Vladimir
Putin noted at the opening ceremony, "it is not only a tribute to the
first President of Russia”. "The center was conceived as a reflection of
an era in the history of our country, the era of radical changes, it is
extremely important, difficult and, of course, controversial. We are acquainted
with the exposition. It really is an honest story about how modern Russia was
built, what difficulties it encountered, what problems were solved. The story
of what has been done during this difficult period”, website kremlin.ru quotes
the words of the Head of the State.
From
November 26 "Yeltsin Center" will begin to work for all visitors. They
will be able to participate in master classes, public lectures and screening of
the documentary films.
