KZN.RU, December 22). President of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam
Minnikhanov, Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin participated at the opening ceremony of
Galeev mosque in the center of Kazan today. The ceremony was held in
celebration of Mawlid al-Nabi (the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad).
Galeev
mosque, built in 1798, is the object of cultural heritage of Russia and Tatar
religious architecture monument. During the Soviet period the building was used
for other purposes, which led it to the emergency condition. In 2014 by
decision of the President of Tatarstan repair work began here. For eighteen
months the builders managed to recreate the historic appearance of the mosque,
to establish the necessary engineering services, to strengthen the walls and
roof.
Rustam
Minnikhanov praised the results of large-scale reconstruction, visited the
mosque and got acquainted with its interior decoration.
Congratulating
the congregation with a solemn event, the President of the Republic of Tatarstan
noted that Galeev mosque is one of the oldest in the republic and is more than
200 years old. "Revival of the mosque is an important event for all of
Tatarstan. I hope, it will serve for the benefit of our people, republic and
religion", - he said.
Rustam
Minnikhanov also added that in the near future restoration of Galeev house next
door will be completed.

Hazrat Samigullin, in turn, thanked the President of Tatarstan and all those
who assisted in the reconstruction of the mosque, the Press Service of the
President of the Republic of Tatarstan reports.
