Kazan to set "Green Record"
(KZN.RU, October 10, by Ekaterina Andreyeva) This fall, every major company has to plant at least 2013 large saplings. With this appeal Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin launched a new large-scale greening of Kazan project the "Green Record" at the enlarged meeting of the political council of the "United Russia" local branch.
Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov supported the initiative saying that at least 50,000 large saplings should be planted each season in Kazan through off-budget financing.
The mayor quoted statistics according to which there are more than 300,000 cars but only 225,000 trees in Kazan. This is fewer than one tree per household.
According to him, the massive greening project has been fully developed. Plans for the greening of specific streets have been elaborated with participation of professional landscaping companies. As of now, over 2,000 large trees have been planted. But municipality alone cannot implement this large-scale project.
Each and every Kazan resident should make his or her contribution to the “Green Record”. Every week, community cleanup days will be held in city yards, parks and gardens, where everyone will be able to plant a tree.
