The improvement works on the first phase of the Bolshoye Chaikovoye Lake
will be completed by October. There will be observation decks on the site where
visitors can view local birds, information stands will provide information
about the birds. A new pedestrian link with Adoratskogo Street will be
established for residents. Over 350 large trees and more than a thousand shrubs
will be planted there. For the first time, lighting will be installed in this
area. At the request of residents, a public toilet will be provided, including
one for disabled people. As of today, the works are completed by 27%. Mayor
Ilsur Metshin inspected the progress of the landscaping.
Over the last five years, Kazan's public spaces have increased by 19,
from 144 to 163. Their total area has grown by 142 hectare to 554 hectare.
“We continue to improve the Chaikovye Lakes. The first stage included
work on the Maloye Chaikovoye Lake near the city hospital - 7, and the work that
is taking place today. It was implemented under the program of the Rais of
Tatarstan, which started in 2011. Thanks to it, all our public spaces that were
in a deteriorated state have been put in order. We started with 132 hectares,
and today there are 554 hectares of green, landscaped squares and parks in
Kazan,”- said Ilsur Metshin.
The total area of public space is 10 hectares. Previously, it was just
fenced off. Before the start of the first stage of work, more than 5,000 square
meters of territory were cleared.
“With the allocation of funding, we plan to complete the improvement of
the Chaikovye Lakes within one to two years. After that, residents of F. Amirkhanaa,
Adoratskogo, Chuikova and Lavrentieva streets, as well as all those who reside
in the Novo-Savinovsky district, will enjoy a new public space,”- noted the
Mayor.
The first phase covers 2.1 hectare. Tiles will be laid on walking paths
with an area of 1,800 square meters. Taking into account the features of the
territory, paths will run along the perimeter of the green area. Wooden
flooring will be installed on sidewalks and pier. As of now, work continues,
and the installation of outdoor water and sanitation systems is underway.
On the observation decks, visitors can watch birds, muskrats, beavers,
as well as admire the plants. Vitaly Volkov, the Director General of Miriada
Group LLC, has reported that recreational areas with information stands about
the local residents are available on the pier, and the Directorate of Parks and
Gardens of Kazan is involved in the design process.
It should be noted that one of the largest colonies of lake gulls in
Tatarstan settle on the territory of Chaikovye Lakes. The birds settled there
in the 1970s, there are mallards and terns, while during the autumn and spring
migrations of birds, the number of species increases even further.
The next stage of the project involves installing an automatic
irrigation system, 22 video surveillance cameras, sound alerts, observation
decks, and about 19 benches and 16 trash cans. Six navigation and four
information stands will also be installed. A canopy will be provided for the
solid waste collection site.
The works are carried out with great care to preserve the existing green
spaces.
“We need to continue working with the head of the district and interview
residents to find out what else they would like to see in this area. This is
important so that when the work is completed, the space will fully meet all the
needs of our residents,”- said Ilsur Metshin.
