Today, the Mayor of Kazan, Ilsur Metshin, met with entrepreneurs and
representatives of the environmental movement. During the discussion on waste
management, recycling, and sorting, the Mayor announced the launch of support
measures for entrepreneurs working in the environmental management.
The meeting took place at the BIZON Gallery of Contemporary Art. Ilsur
Metshin noted that in 2005, about 550-600 tons of garbage were collected per
day in Kazan. Now, the daily volume of waste has increased to 1,800 tons. There
are four landfills near Kazan, which are full. The Vostochny landfill, which is
under construction, will have a capacity of 1 million 600 thousand tons of waste
and will be full in three years,”- the Mayor emphasized.
According to Ilsur Metshin, taking into account sanitary standards,
landfills occupy 900 hectares of land. These areas have been removed from
economic circulation and could have been used to build social facilities and
new residential buildings. There are no more available land plots for landfills
in the city. “We live in this city, work here, and raise our children and
grandchildren,”- said Ilsur Metshin.
The Mayor also mentioned that recycling and waste management have been a
priority for the municipality since this year. As a result, the city has
implemented several support measures to promote recycling and reduce waste.
One of the programs is a subsidy for the purchase of recycling
equipment. This includes reimbursement of up to half the cost, up to a maximum
of 2 million rubles. Entrepreneurs may also receive grants for the construction
of waste collection, sorting, and recycling facilities. Up to 1 million rubles
will be provided per company. The new program is scheduled to start in
September.
