The 1st
International Forum of Port Cities will take place on 1-2 October in
Svetlogorsk (Kaliningrad region). Representatives
of government bodies, port and transport industries, businesses, financial
organizations and the expert community take part in the Forum. The program
includes business discussions, presentations of innovative solutions in the
field of maritime logistics, and Youth Intensive Course “Port City: Youth at The
Helm”. Ilsur Metshin, Mayor of Kazan, Honorary Chairman of the BRICS+
Association of Cities and Municipalities will represent Kazan.
The Yantar
Hall Congress Center will become a host venue, and the key theme will be “Ports
of the Future: Integration, Sustainability, Growth.” The event is organized
with the support of the Maritime Board of the Russian Federation.
The main
purpose of the forum is the rethinking the role of the port. The organizers
propose to avoid the perception of the port as an isolated infrastructure hub.
The focus is on the port as a driver of development, inextricably linked to
urban space, the industrial sector, energy, the environmental agenda and human
capital.
The topics
of the Forum include Transarctic Transport Corridor and the Northern Sea Route,
multimodal logistics, investments, public-private partnerships, as well as
international trade and cooperation between Russia and the BRICS countries.
Special discussions will be devoted to fishing clusters, transport security,
training and digitalization of ports, as well as finding a balance between the
development of the port economy and the quality of the urban environment.
Alexander
Galushka, President of the Growth Crystal Fund, will moderate one of the key sessions
“Port Cities- Anchor Points of World Logistics Architecture”. Nikolai
Patrushev, Aide to the President of Russia and Chairman of the Russian Maritime
Board, will also address the audience with an introductory speech.
On October
2, the key event will be the expert discussion “Port and City: from infrastructure
to quality of life”. Ilsur Metshin, the Mayor of Kazan, will take part in the
session. Speaking as honorary chairman of the BRICS+ Association of Cities and
Municipalities, the Mayor will present the international experience of the
association and talk about the potential of inter-municipal cooperation of
BRICS+ cities.
