(KZN.RU, August 5, by Ekaterina Andreyeva) The 2015 World Aquatics Championships will be held at the highest level. This confidence was expressed by President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov, who spoke at a gala marking the arrival of the FINA (International Swimming Federation) flag in Kazan.
The event was held at the Palace of Water Sports.
Welcoming the guests of the festival, Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin said that the world championship in water sports is one of the most popular events – the 2013 Championship in Barcelona was watched by 3.5 billion TV viewers across the world. "We will prepare for this event with utmost responsibility," said the mayor.
Ilsur Metshin handed the FINA flag to President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov. "For five years we had lived for one purpose – preparation for and holding of the Universiade,” said Minnikhanov. “Today, we have a new sports goal – hosting the World Aquatics Championships, which have been entrusted to Kazan, and fewer than two years remain until the event."
"I am confident that the 2015 World Championships will be held at the highest level," concluded Mr. Minnikhanov.
The 16th World Aquatics Championships will be held in Kazan from July 17 to August 2, 2015. Three thousand athletes from more than 200 countries will participate in the championships. They will compete in swimming, open water swimming, diving, high diving (included in the championship program only this year), as well as in synchronized swimming and water polo.
