(KZN.RU, January 27, by Renat Shirmanov). Kazan will be represented by five athletes at the Olympic Games in Sochi. The upcoming Winter Games are a good opportunity to promote a healthy lifestyle, as well as physical training and sports. This was stated by Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin at today's Business Monday meeting.
Chairman of the Committee of Physical Education and Sports Ilgiz Fakhriev said that the Russian Olympic team will include 223 athletes from 31 regions of Russia. Five of them represent Kazan in three sports : Natalia Zhukova (skiing) , Niyaz Nabiyev (Nordic combined), Evgeny Medvedev, Ilya Nikulin and Alexei Tereshchenko (ice hockey). Anastasia Dotsenko (skiing) and Ivan Panin (Nordic Combined) from the Republic of Tatarstan will also go to the Olympics.
"We will closely monitor the progress of our fellow countrymen and the entire Russian team. The Olympics are the biggest sports forum. This is a good occasion to promote a healthy lifestyle, physical activity and sports. Right now, there is a program airing on TV about the history of the Olympic Games, which, in particular, shows the life and training of today's Olympic athletes. It promotes exercising and sets a good example for our children and youth,” noted Ilsur Metshin.
