According to the head of the city, Kazan population growth sets new records every year, and we cannot but rejoice over this fact. "Literally on the eve of the broadcast, we learned that the 1,200,000th Kazan resident was born. More precisely, the new-born baby is a girl, a second in the family. This is a great event for all of us because population growth is a good indicator. It's no secret that in the 90s, when the population was falling, there was a danger that Kazan would lose its status of a million-strong city. However, in the last five years we have grown by 65 thousand due to an increase in fertility – the "baby boom" which has occurred in Kazan and Tatarstan in recent years – and, of course, the growing attractiveness of the city has stimulated migration. This is an impressive figure which entails the construction of kindergartens, schools and new housing," said the mayor.
