The first stage
of the Gorky Highway reconstruction is planned to be completed at the end of
2023. An interchange will be opened at the intersection with Bolotnikov, Frunze
and Vosstaniya Streets by that time, Kazan Mayor Ilsur Metshin informed today during
the onsite meeting. According to him, this will significantly relieve traffic
on one of the main city highways, where there are daily congestions. This year
it is planned to complete the construction of a turning loop in the village of
Zalesny and replace all utilities in the area of construction work.
Exit from Kazan
along the Gorky Highway towards Moscow is one of the busiest destinations,
thousands of cars, especially on weekends, face the problem of traffic congestions
here. After the reconstruction, the traffic situation and transport
accessibility in the western direction will significantly improve. The Mayor
highly appreciated the pace of reconstruction work.
“The reconstruction
is going on according to the schedule, and in 2025 we plan to fully complete
the works at the 11.8 km long site, - Ilsur Metshin said. - Now the
construction of five turning loops is underway, as well as an interchange on
the Gorky Ring. Underground and aboveground pedestrian crossings will be built,
as traffic lights from the M7 to Muzykalnaya Street will be removed to increase
speed”.
Besides, the
highway will be expanded to six lanes on the section from the Fakel shop to the
Olympietz sports complex, the Mayor noted. A 1.5-meter-wide bike path and a
sidewalk from three to 4.5 meters wide will run along the entire Gorky Highway.
“The interchange
at the intersection of Gorky Highway, Bolotnikov, Frunze and Vosstaniya Streets
will be opened at the end of 2023. This will relieve the road for the cars and
public transport”, - the Mayor said. A three-level interchange will be built
here, consisting of an underground tunnel, an overpass and a roadway.
To reduce the
impact of road works on traffic, specialists laid detours at the Olympietz sports
complex and near Bolotnikov and Frunze Streets. At the same time, today the
expansion of the existing road to six lanes is being completed, the workers
have to finish the top layer of asphalt.
About 100 people
and 32 special vehicles work at the facility every day. As part of the
reconstruction, they will have to build three underground turning rings. As of
today, work on the construction of a turning loop near Frunze and Bolotnikov
Streets has been completed by 30%, near the Olympietz sports complex – by 64%
and near the M7 highway - by 17%.
This year it is
planned to complete the construction of a turning loop in the village of
Zalesny and remove all the utilities in the area of construction work. At the
moment, preparatory work at the reconstruction site has been completed by 54%,
power supply networks have been rebuilt by 67%, and outdoor lighting networks –
by 37%. Workers also continue to work on the transfer of storm sewers, now the
work has been completed by 21%.
